Commercial and Residential Tanning Units

Many manufacturers of tanning beds produce two kinds of tanning beds based on the use. One type is the commercial tanning bed and the other is the residential tanning bed.

When referring to commercial tanning units, these are used by tanning salons. These may be tanning beds, tanning booths, or the spray tanning booths. The heavy duty commercial tanning beds are usually larger and built for luxury and comfort.

Some manufacturers of these beds classify them as A-class, C-class, and E-class. The A-class commercial beds are described as entry-level tanning units that are smaller and simpler. It is ideal for start-up tanning salons. The C-class beds are mid-level tanning beds that are larger than the A-class ones.

These usually have more features (such as digital heads up display and high pressure facial tanning system), and of course, more expensive. The E-class beds are definitely larger and sometimes twice the size of the A-class ones. The E-class beds are ideal for people with big frames and people who feel claustrophobic.

Sun tanning booths or stand-up beds are also considered commercial tanning beds. Tanning salons have these equipment especially if the space they occupy are small and cannot accommodate many lie-down beds. Some customers, too, prefer to stand rather than lie down.

There are also customers of tanning salons who do not like to be exposed to ultraviolet radiation. This is why tanning salons have sun-less booths or spray tanning booths. Instead of ultraviolet-producing lamps, a sun-less tanning booth uses a spray system that releases a chemical which forms a tan-colored complex in the person’s skin.

Residential tanning units usually refer to tanning beds that are used by private individuals in their homes. These beds are often less bulky and designed to fit an average-size house. But these also have features similar to commercial ones, such as acrylic canopies and special face tanning lamps and arm tanning lamps. Despite the smaller size, a person can use these beds in relative comfort.

Aside from tanning beds, there are also portable sun lamps. These are definitely smaller and can be packed into a bag when a person travels from one place to another. The average size of portable facial sun lamps is no bigger than a person’s chest.

But there are bigger ones called “upper-body” sun lamps. Using these units does not require the consumer to lie down naked. To use the facial sun lamp, a person just needs to keep his or her face in front of the tanning unit for several minutes.

Whichever tanning needs you choose, be it for commercial or residential use, as a consumer, you must be aware of the various options available to you.
