Use your Tanning Bed with Sense

There are some inherent dangers of tanning beds, just as there are with any product, but safe usage and some common sense will make your experience with tanning beds an enjoyable and rewarding one.

Many debates are still ongoing by dermatologists and beauty experts, however bottom line it is your body and your decision. If you are in the market for your own tanning bed there are some simple common practices you should take into account and to be fully aware of possible side effects of tanning bed usage.

Tanning beds subject you to a simulated dose of UV radiation, just as the sun does in everyday life. So all protections you would use for a day at the beach apply to your own tanning bed sessions. Proper lotions should always be used as well as protective eye wear should be mandatory for all sessions in your tanning bed. Also schedule your sessions smartly and don’t over do it. Moderation is the key.

If you have any type of skin problem from regular sun exposure, those effects can be duplicated with tanning beds. Over exposure can lead to surface itching, discoloration, and even sun burn causing blisters.

Using common sense can prevent these from happening.

A very real concern when using tanning beds is of course skin cancer caused by exposure to UV radiation while in a tanning bed. Knowing your own skin type and history of skin cancer in your family should be taken into account when deciding to buy or use a tanning bed. Because seriously, a healthy tan should be just that... healthy! Don’t let the pursuit of beauty lead to physical hardship.

There are basically five skin types starting with Skin Type I (Albino) to Skin Type V which is very dark skin. Your own skin type will determine the duration and frequency you should use a tanning bed. While you are at your next tanning bed salon appointment they should be able to help identify your skin type and help you set up a tanning bed schedule best fitted for safety. Most home tanning beds also have comprehensive manuals that will also go over these facts and don’t forget about your doctor. He can of course advise you as well and help set up your tanning bed schedule.

The use of a tanning bed is absolutely a fantastic way to looking great and if you practice good common sense the dangers of tanning beds turn minimal and you are on your way to the perfect tan.
