10 Fast Facts of Tanning
Here are some 10 fast facts about tanning that everyone should know about:
1. Tanning booths are not exactly what they claim to be. They claim that the UV rays you get from them are safer than the ones you get from the sun. The UV rays that tanning booths emit provide the same damage as those that come from the sun.
When your skin gets tanned it doesn’t mean it becomes
healthier. It only means that your skin is protecting itself from the too
much rays. Overexposure to either artificial or natural rays causes aging
of the skin, inflammations and rashes, eye injury, and can increase your
chances of developing skin cancer.
2. Some tanning bed manufacturers claim that UVB rays and UVA rays safe
effects are just the same. This is not true. They are both damaging to
the skin they
just do so in different ways. The UVB rays affect the surface of the skin
while UVA rays affect the deeper layers. They both are capable of burning
but as stated earlier UVA rays penetrate deeper.
3. Being exposed to UV rays regularly and long enough can increase the
person’s
risk of skin cancer whether it is artificially or naturally. Squamous cell
and basal cell cancers can be treated if they are detected early. Melanoma
is a pretty dangerous type of skin cancer because it can be fatal.
4. Wear protective eye gear when tanning under tanning beds because they
can destroy tanning beds. Overexposure to UVA rays can harm the cornea.
When this happens the damage can change the structure of lens and it will
cloud
forming cataracts. If untreated it can lead to blindness. The UV rays that
are present in tanning booths can still harm you even if you close your
eyes; put a towel or cotton over it.
5. Ordinary sunlight damage to your skin can be increased because of UV
rays from tanning beds. This happens because the skin becomes thinner due
to the
ultraviolet lights making its property to heal itself less and becomes
more vulnerable from the deep penetration of the UVA rays.
6. Your skin will also experience aging. You will have more dark spots,
wrinkles, and sagging more. This will take effect when you have reached
middle age.
7. Tanning booths makes acne or scars worse and not heal them. You may
produce more sebum because of the drying effects of UV rays. This in turn
will only
produce more pimples. New scars can become darker and older scars will
stand out more.
8. Cellulites in skin can just become a vicious cycle for tanned people.
Cellulite on tanned skin will appear noticeable less but when you become
thinner the cellulite on untanned skin will look worse.
9. Birth control pills, certain medicines, cosmetics and soaps can actually
increase the burning of skin or produce other painful reactions under UV
rays.
10. Sunscreens provide some protection against UVB rays but they are not
able to protect you totally for UVA rays.
