Dangers of Tanning Beds

Is there any truth to the urban legend about the woman who died from the tanning machine? We all know that too much of something is really bad, but is too much indoors tanning real bad. Lets take a look at how dermatologist and public health professionals see it.

Sunlight is good for the body, but too much of it is really bad. The right amount of sunlight needed for a healthy body should never be confused with getting a suntan. Because even the littlest sunlight can help the body manufacture Vitamin D already. They believe that the sun, tanning machines and sun lamps’ UVA and UVB rays are helpful. They are helpful to some extent. The UVB’s rays are the ones that cause sunburn while the UVA penetrates the deeper part of your skin that causes more damage.

The worst danger that UV rays can cause that scientist has recently discovered is that it’s a direct cause of melanoma. Melanoma is the worst kind of skin cancer as it develops malignant tumors in the skin. Aside from melanoma, it will also damage the immune system. It will also give you premature aging of the skin and make your skin wrinkly and look like leather. The worst part is that melanoma is not really easily curable and it can be fatal if not detected and prevented early.

If the person is regularly using tanning methods, he or she becomes greatly at risk for skin cancer because the damage will accumulate. However, the bad effects of tanning don’t show up right away. So most young people in heir teens and twenties won’t realize the damage until they are middle aged.

The risks of UV rays also depend on the skin types of a person. Determining what kind of skin type you are will help if you are at a high risk towards UV rays. Here is each skin type to help you out.

Types 1 are those that are really pale and always burns and never tans.

Types 2
are those that are white, they burn easily and they tan minimally.

Types 3 are those that are also averagely white. They burn moderately and they tan gradually to light brown.

Types 4 are those that are beige or light brown. They burn minimally and tan well to moderately brown.

Types 5
are those that are moderately brown. They rarely burn and they tan profusely to dark.

Types 6 are those that are dark brown or black, they never burn and are deeply pigmented.
