Complications of Tanning

Tanning either inside or outside has its bad effects too. Just like the old adage that says “too much of something is clearly bad”. Too much tanning or if you become obsessed with tannin there will be some heath risks associated with it. The most common one that worries most doctors is tanners will develop skin cancer.

Aside from skin cancer, there are other diseases associated with tanning. Here are some of the following complications that may arise from excessive tanning. Hope that by seeing this, one will cut down or manage to a more moderate time his or her tanning schedule.

Actinic Keratosis- this is a skin growth that usually appears on any part of the body that is exposed on the sun. Usually appears on the hands, forearms, necks and face. These things look like reddish rough growths. They are pre-malignant but will become malignant if not treated right away.

Photo aging- if you think that this is cool because you’re skin will look glossy like that of a photo, think again. It will become the complete opposite. Your skin because of the long term exposure to the UV rays will become wrinkly, leathery and thick. This is also known as premature aging or in scientific terms actinic degeneration. This situation can be avoided by using proper protection.

Certain Eye Damages and Cataracts – UV radiation has been known to increase the risk of having cataracts. Cataracts can cause the person to have cloudy vision because of loss of transparency in the eye. If not treated, this can cause blindness.

Other types of skin ailments that affects the eyes due to UV radiation are: skin cancer around the eyes, pterygium (the growth of tissue on the white part of the eye), and damage in the part of the retina where vision is the sharpest. ( macula degeneration)

You can prevent all of these by using the proper eye protections.

The body’s immune system will be damaged if it is overexposed. Research says that sunburn causes changes in distribution and function of the white blood cells. Therefore giving the body a hard time when fighting skin cancer.

• The last one is skin cancer called Melanoma. This cancer has been one of the most common cases of cancer in the United States. Melanoma causes the deaths of 7,300 people every year.

Don’t try to overdo your tanning. If you do certain complications will arise that will make you only think about he mistakes you made. Being beautiful now doesn’t pay off in the long run.
