Overexposed In Tanning Beds

While many people can get their gorgeous tans using tanning beds, some suffer pain and burns after using tanning beds. There are many reasons why this happens. One is that when a person ignores warnings and guidelines, for example, staying for one hour instead of twenty minutes, he would likely be subject to fatal effects of overexposure.

Another is forgetting to use protective measures such as tanning lotions and goggles. And still another reason is overconfidence. For example, you naturally have brown skin and this skin type is less vulnerable to burning than the beige, white or pale skins. And so you decided to extend you stay on the tanning bed. You must remember that dark skins get burned too, when overexposed to UV radiation.

When overexposed, you are vulnerable to a wide range of health problems. The most obvious is sunburn, which includes painful skin blisters. If this happens often enough, it will lead to skin cancer. The human body naturally produces a few cancerous cells and these abnormal cells are detected and then destroyed by our internal defense system, the immune system. But overexposure meant that the skin erroneously produces more cancerous cells. Too many that the body’s immune system is overwhelmed and cannot fight the abnormal cells anymore. This is the onset of skin cancer.

Another effect of overexposure is premature aging. Instead of becoming more beautiful, your skin will show signs of advanced years, such as wrinkles, lines, spots, and constant dryness. Overexposure also weakens the body’s immune system. You will be subject to other kinds of disease simply because your body cannot adequately protect itself. Instead of getting a healthy glowing bronze skin, you still ended up pale, and trapped on another kind of bed – the sick bed.

And lastly, your vision may be affected. Some have their vision blurred after an overexposure or an unprotected tanning. In worst cases, you may become blind.

To prevent the detrimental effects of overexposure in tanning beds, you should conscientiously heed the warnings and follow the posted guidelines. Follow the timer you have set and don’t fall asleep. And if you are pregnant, it is a great idea to stay away from tanning beds for awhile. This is to avoid health risks for the baby inside your womb.

If, due to circumstances beyond your control, you were still overexposed in your tanning beds, consult a doctor immediately. You must have a complete physical check up. And, to give your body time to recuperate, cancel all your tanning sessions for this year and the next.
