Lotions Needed In Tanning Beds

Putting yourself under ultraviolet radiation is a health risk, even if the radiation is artificially produced. You will need some measure of protection. This protection is in the form of tanning lotions. Tanning lotions do not prevent or slow down the effects of UV radiation on you. They actually accelerate the tanning process so that you may cut short your exposure to the UV lamps.

There are many tanning lotions available but these are basically classified into “tan accelerators” and “moisturizers”. You may apply the lotion before the tanning session so that these can prepare your skin. Your body will also tan faster if it is moist. And then, you may apply the lotion again after the tanning session, so that tanning may continue even when you are no longer under the lamps.

Tanning actually involves the production of melanin by the skin. Melanin is the pigment which is responsible for your tan. The UV radiation from the lamp induces the body to produce melanin. With the lotion, the process of achieving that gorgeous tan would be faster.

The active component in most tanning lotions is called tyrosine. Tyrosine is an amino acid. When you coat your skin with the lotion, you are actually replenishing your body with enough amino acids that will hold the melanin longer. At the same time, tannin slows down exfoliation. Exfoliation is a peeling process. Since tyrosine is also an antioxidant, it means that it can bind dangerous free radicals and help clean the skin pores.

Aside from tyrosine, tanning lotions also have vitamin E, another substance which is known for fighting the aging process. This is because vitamin E is an oxidant, too. It clears the pores and makes hideous scars and skin flaws less obvious. Vitamin E slows down chemical reactions in the body that results to aging. In other words, it prevents the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Things that don’t complement with your beautiful tan.

And another important component of tanning bed lotions is the moisturizer. The moisturizer is not water. These are oils that also give nutrients to the body. When your skin is exposed to UV rays, the skin is actually being dried.

A dry skin is unhealthy, sensitive, and more vulnerable to its environment. Try drawing a line on a dry skin, and then on a skin which is not dry. Notice the unsightly line that mars the dry skin? You don’t get that when the skin is normal. To protect your skin, it must be moisturized. Thus, tanning lotions protect your body from dryness.

When you use lotions before and after using the tanning bed, you help get a tan faster, moisturize and protect your skin, and lessen the health risks posed by the radiation.
